Questions from Nelson bakers

How long does it take to activate the starter?

Most bakers see a lively, bake-ready starter within a few days of simple daily feedings — just flour and water. Our instructions walk you through each step, and the Sourdough Academy is there if you want to keep learning.

Will the starter survive the trip from Canada to Nelson?

That's the beauty of dehydrating. The culture rests in a dormant, shelf-stable state that travels beautifully — long flights are no trouble at all. It bounces back to life in your jar with that deep, tangy sourdough flavour, ready whenever you are.

Is shipping to Nelson really free?

Yes — genuinely free. Every New Zealand address, including Nelson, Tasman and Golden Bay, ships free with no minimum order and no surprise charges at checkout.

Your first crackling, golden loaf is only a few days away. Order your Squirrelly Girl Starter today and start baking like a true Nelson artisan.
